Philippines Breaks Ground on New MRT Line Government officials and transport authorities gathered in Quezon City on Tuesday to break ground on the construction of the new Metro Rail Transit (MRT) Line 10. The MRT-10, also known as the San Mateo-Masinag Line, will connect the city of San Mateo in Rizal Province to Masinag in Antipolo City. The 15-kilometer line will feature 13 stations and is expected to serve around 300,000 passengers daily. The project, which is estimated to cost around ₱120 billion ($2.4 billion), is expected to be completed by 2028. According to Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, the MRT-10 will help ease traffic congestion in Metro Manila and provide residents of eastern Metro Manila with a more convenient and efficient way to commute. “This line will provide a vital transportation link for the growing population of eastern Metro Manila, connecting them to the rest of the region,” Bautista said. The project is being funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Korean Export-Import Bank. ADB Country Director Kelly Bird said that the bank is committed to supporting sustainable and inclusive infrastructure projects in the Philippines. “The MRT-10 is a critical investment in the country’s transportation sector,” Bird said. “It will not only improve connectivity but also create jobs and boost economic growth.” Mayor Edwin Olivarez of Parañaque City, which is one of the cities that will be served by the MRT-10, expressed his support for the project. “This line will be a game-changer for our city,” Olivarez said. “It will provide our residents with a much-needed transportation option and help reduce traffic congestion.”
